40 Days.

How much can really change in 40 Days?

In 40 days of rain, God covered the earth in water (Genesis 7:12).

After 40 days on the Mountain with God, Moses returned with the tablets of law. (Exodus 34:29)

With 40 days and Jonah’s four-word sermon (trust me, it’s four words in Hebrew) God turned the city of Nineveh upside-down.

40 days of prayer and fasting prepared Jesus for his earthly ministry.

And 40 days spent with Jesus after the resurrection prepared the disciples to change the world.

So obviously a lot can change in 40 days.

The real question is how much can 40 days change in you!

Starting Sunday, September 30, Southdale will be on a 40 day journey into the Bible.  40 days of Bible reading will help you engage God’s Word, from Genesis to Revelation.  To help you on this journey there are lots of ways to engage the Word.

Daily Reading

Each day for 40 days, get into the Bible though four easy steps:

  • Pray: Pray that God will connect with you as you seek him in His Word, and then be open to what God has for you.
  • Read: Read the selection of Scripture. Take time to mark intriguing words and phrases, and then read them a second time.
  • Reflect: Reflect on what captures your attention. Think through what God is communicating to you at this point in your life.
  • Respond: Respond to the passage. Talk to God about what’s on your mind.  Listen with your heart. Ask God what actions or changes He desires for your life.
There are several ways you can keep up to date on the daily readings:
  • Print out the 40 Days Deeper Daily Reading Guide (PDF).
  • Use The YouVersion Bible App to connect to our 40 Days Deeper Daily Events.  (Select Live from the main menu and search for an event in our zip code: 46013)
  • Check out our Going Deeper pages right here on southdalenaz.com.
  • Like our Facebook page and check it out for daily readings.  (Remember, the more often you interact with updates on our Facebook page by liking them, sharing them, or leaving comments, the more likely it is for status updates from SDNC to appear in your timeline.)
  • Have the readings sent to your phone daily by SMS. Follow these instructions to do so:
    • Go to the Nazarene Journeys Page at the American Bible Society.
    • Click on “Login” on the top right, and select “Register Now” if you don’t yet have a ABS account.
    • Enter your email address, a password, zip code and confirm your denomination and age.
    • Click on “Add Journey” under the Logout button.
    • Select the journey entitled “Nazarene Engage”
    • Select your language. For English all you have to do is hit the red “Subscribe” button.
    • Enter your cell phone number and select confirm.
    • On your phone, confirm that you want to receive the text messages by replying “Yes” to the confirmation text. Be sure not to include a signature when you do so.
    • You can stop the messages any time by texting “Stop” to 75664
Sunday Morning

Each Sunday morning during the campaign our sermon will focus on one of the readings through the week.  Imagine how much more you can get out of the message when you have spent the week in the Word!
